What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Nevada

I am about to enter settlement negotiation due to a car accident that sent me
to the ER.

I was picked up by an ambulance and taken to ER for a few hours to be checked
out - I was diagnosed with a "chest contusion" due to my seat belt.

At the time of the car accident, I was recovering from heart surgery. The accident
set my recovery time back approximately 2 months, causing me additional chest
pain.

The insurance settlement is offering my $5k for my pain and suffering, and I am
questioning what a reasonable settlement would be. Any feedback is greatly
appreciated.

Thank you,

Dave

Contusion is a fancy word for a bruise. You'd be lucky to get any pain and suffering for that. $5K is extremely generous. Usually you won't get anything if no bones were broken.

Except that the contusion complicated healing from the pre-existing surgery, which IS a compensable injury. But probably worth consulting an attorney on.
