what is the difference between suprior court and municipal court?

In 1998 the Legislature placed on the ballot a constitutional amendment, approved by the voters, that enabled unification of the superior and municipal courts into a single level of trial court. In less than three years, based upon a county-by-county vote of the judges, the trial courts throughout California merged into a single court in each county. Depending on the size of the county, there may be "Branchs" of the superior court. So some functions may take place in different branches, sometimes in the building that once housed, "Municipal" courts here is a link to informations about the courts by county.

Technically for civil cases there is no longer a Superior and Municipal court. The Municipal courts have been incorporated into the Superior courts. However, depending on the value of your case when the Complaint is filed, a civil case is now designated as an Unlimited or Limited action.
An Unlimited action is a civil case with a value of more than $25,000. Limited actions are for cases worth less than $25,000.

ok, thanx a lot u guys. So if some1 is being sent to municipal court , does that mean that thier crime isn't as bad as 1 that get's tried at the superior court?

"My boyfreind got arested the other night for breaking a car window. They say it is 5,000 dollars worth of damage, and he is on a 40,000 dollar bail right now. It is a felony, but my boyfreind is off parole an has no warrants ... so I was wonderin how much time will he do for this??? ( i haven't heard from him in almost a week), does any1 have a clue??? And will he just be in jail or prison? ?

NO, each post is different. For this post I want to know about the superior court and municipal court. For the other post I was curious about marriage and ssi, and the other post I wanted to know about the vandalism. That is why they are all in different sections, cause they are all seperate questions ... but I am still wonderin if the superior courts trials mean that thier crime is worse than a municipal court trial.
now that we know what you are asking about, you are in the wrong forum. your question does not have anything to do with "civil" law. you are asking about 'criminal' law.
Typically Municipal courts hear misdemeanor cases. But that is not always true. They can sometimes take on felony cases. Same with Superior Court that typically hears felony cases. They can also hear misdemeanor cases. you need to find out what the specific charges are.
