What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? florida

My stepson is being neglected at home. He has had physical signs of abuse in the past (welt on his chest, busted lip, burn on his side). Last year, I contacted CPS because my stepson had been wetting the bed, having nightmares about being murdered and he was layering his clothing. Nothing ever became of that, the mother lied about what happened and the case was closed. My son comes over looking and smelling horrible. He has shared with me that he doesn't take baths often and he has had a ringworm for nine months now. He is also doing badly in school. He has had this problem since he started school because his mother does not help him with homework. His teachers have been letting him pass to the next grade based upon him attending summer school. My husband does not say too much, I believe he feels that trying to get custody of his son is a lost cause because the courts tend to favor the mother over the father. He has had a tramatic experience before dealing with the courts regarding his child and now he just goes with the flow of things that his child's mother does or doesn't do. My husband tries his best to do the things that my son's mother doesn't do as best he can, but the situation has gotten way out of hand. I would like to have some facts to present to my husband on getting custody of his child to let him know that it is not a lost cause and that there is hope.

Ringworm for 9 months?! The father can treat the ringworm also

Have you been documenting anything? Have you contacted the school about some help via tutoring? Have you followed up with CPS or given up? Have you gotten the child into therapy to discover his issues? (I'd be concerned about the layering of clothing, for one)

Sounds like the father is not pursuing what is best for his son. If you need to 'present' the father with motivation to help his own child- It's either not as bad as you portray, or the father is just as bad in terms of neglecting the son's welfare.
