OP,
The atty probably wasn't paid, so didn't appear (Mr Green hasn't arrived).
If the atty had not made an appearance yet, then s/he wasn't the atty of record & had no obligation to appear.
Also, it's the defendant's responsibility to appear in court for all appearances.
In most jurisdictions, they MUST appear on felonies - the atty cannot appear without the client.
On most misdemeanors, the atty can appear without the defendant, but the defendant should appear to protect his/her interests - how many times in their life will they have to go to court ?? (hopefully, few) and, when jail time for a failure to appear is possible, why delegate the responsibility to ANYONE ??
The morale of your story is: GO TO COURT when you have been ordered/served to appear. What the heck is more important that day ??
Besides, you get a preview of the Prosecutor, the Judge and the sentences occurring in that court.
