What is the name of your state? Oregon

This really bothers me and Im not sure where to post.
Yesturday my neighbors 8 year old girl burned her hand on a burner that had just been turned off.. It blistered and skin peeled off. Mother takes the child to the Er..Mother and child wait two hours to be seen, which is normal in our town due to lack of affordable insurance the er is always jammed.. When mom and child get in the room to be seen child starts saying how hungry she is and that she hasnt eaten all day..The nurse asks the mom why hasnt she eaten today? Mom assures the nurse child has eaten and thats what they were preparing to do before child got burned.. The rest of the er visit was a lot of assumtions about neglect and treating the mom like crap..They(DR and Nurse stood outside the room talking about how Child servises will be called so this case gets looked into....
What case? Can they do this because a child claims she hasnt eaten a thing all day.. My kids would say the same thing after waiting in the er and if you are going to be seen in the er you are asked not to eat or drink. So yes Im sure the child was hungry.. What do you think?

Tell mom to be prepared. CPS will go to her childs school first and talk to her without her consent and depending on what the child says will determine how CPS will react. CPS will talk to the mother after they have interviewed the child and all this leaves mom in a vulnerable situation.

And that is legally correct.

The hospital is a REQUIRED REPORTER. They are required, by law, to report ANY suspicion of child abuse. Whether or not the child said she was hungry the incident would still have been reported for the burn mark.

besides, what business is it of yours?

None of my business, The mother is a good friend of mine and I drove them to the er. I was just shocked at how the attitude in the er was.. I have had my boys in there for stiches, football injuries and have always been treated fine.... and by the way blowingbreeze your an ASS. You may be a senior member on here but your rude and crude remarks no one needs or wants.. go back to bed crab

However, BB is absolutely correct. A burn that bad - especially on the hand from a burner - is suspicious of abuse. Way different than football injuries. The ER staff was required to report it. That the child claimed to not have eaten all day was incidental.

I agree. The hospital did the right thing.
