What is the name of your state? I live in Ohio now, but the offense for security deposit refund happened in Indiana. Would I need to do a small claims court case in Indiana or can I take the landlord to small claims court in Ohio? Would it matter if the house is now sold to whether I will get the return of my security deposit?

You proceed in the State the business occurred .

If the home was sold after you moved , then you would sue the LL / agent that you rented from .

If it was sold while you lived there the SD should have transfered to the new owner .
