couple living in KY...crime occurred in OH...was a felony....1 party is convicted of "mail fraud" as embezzeled money from hospital using false insurance claims..the sentence was prison and repayment of 427,000.00...just curious, will the government put liens on personal property or how is money like this paid back? the husband also has state retirement, he is not involved in this crime, would the government touch his retirement..

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

If one spouse is convicted that is a separate thing from the innocent spouse. So, the only way innocent spouse is affected is if community assets are attached via a collection agency to pay that amount owed.

thanks for your reply..does the government put a lien on property owned...with the possibility that some of the money was used to purchase this property? another words how does this get paid back?
