What is the name of your state?New York

My father passed away six months ago,he had a credit card and put me down as a authurized user. I have used this credit card before and after his death. Am I responsible for his entire credit debt? Even though I did not give him permission to put my name on the card.

I am also interested in hearing advice on this post. I am in a similar situation. My Dad had put me as an authorized user on a credit card (in case of emergencies) when I was 18. I only used it a few times before he was killed (I never used it afterwards). I was only 19 when he died so I didn't know anything about the estate. Long story short, I got a call a year or so later from this company and I advised he had passed away and I was only a signer on it, they asked for his death certificate, so I mailed it in. It is now 9 years later and I just found out it is on MY credit, when I called they advised they removed his name and now I am responsible for the debt. Sorry to bully in on your post ;)

First poster, you should NOT have used his card after his death; I'm not sure of possible consequences to you. I know you are responsible for the charges made after his death, as you had no right to the card at that point.

Second poster, it is rude to hijack another's post. However, you are NOT responsible for any charges, unless made after his death. Authorized users are not responsible for payment. I would send a cease and desist letter to the CA and dispute as obsolete with the credit bureaus. Do all by certified mail return receipt.

I am sorry

I really apologize, I did not intend to do anything like that. I am new to all of this and I thought it might irritate people more if I did my own post for the same thing. I apologize to you carol u, and to you Cmorris. But thank you for the advice on the card, and for the hijack. Won't happen again :(
