What is the name of your state? California

My apartment was burglarized the other day. The point of entry was made by prying off the window screen and entering via an open window. The screen is beyound repair and needs to be replaced. My landlord says I'm responsible for the window screen. I need some advice about this.

It's my understanding that the land owner is responsible for the exterior of the building. I can understand being responsible for damage caused by my negligence, but that's not the case here.

So who replaces the screen? Me or the land owner?

Thanks.

Get a copy of the Police report where it states the point of entry was the window , send a copy to your LL , and state you are not responsible for the damage .
