i am involved in a pending case involving a friend charged with vehicular homicide/dui. I am the only witness and was riding in the passenger seat. My question is should i wait until i am issued a subpoena before giving a witness statement and communicating with police? I have yet to be contacted by anyone on either side regarding this case...it happened in the past week...Louisiana

p.s.

My reason for asking as because i have been told too. My concern however is that not cooperating with law enforcement would only harm his case more...

You should wait until you are notified from someone. There is no since in stirring anything up. They might not even call you in as a witness. So just wait and find out. Then when asked just tell the truth.
