WC & STD benefits

Wouldn't STD benefits depend on how the plan document is written? I worked for one company that did not pay STD on a workers' comp claim UNLESS the workers' comp claim had been denied. The company I currently work for does pay STD benefits when an employee is receiving workers' compensation. (STD is coordinated with the WC benefit so that the employee receives 100% of their base pay.) WC is not taxed but the STD benefit is taxed.

Wouldn't STD benefits depend on how the plan document is written? Yes. That is exactly the point and the great majority of employer sponsored STD plans exclude occupational injuries and illnesses specifically so the employee cannot collect both WC TTD benefits and STD.

I worked for one company that did not pay STD on a workers' comp claim UNLESS the workers' comp claim had been denied. Which is the norm. Once the WC carrier denied the claim, the injury/illness was deemed non-work related and therefore the insured was eligible for STD benefits.

The company I currently work for does pay STD benefits when an employee is receiving workers' compensation. (STD is coordinated with the WC benefit so that the employee receives 100% of their base pay.) That is extremely uncommon but your employer is welcome to specify that in their STD Plan Doc if they wish to.

Maze,
That was my point, this can be collected but it will depend on the plan. So I did not state that in my post. Oh well, mistakes do happen and I am not a pro, just another injured worker trying to help someone else. Still no reason to be addressed in the manner which I was addressed. Everyone should know how their policy reads and if they need help in understanding it then they need to find someone that can assist them.
