I was given a speeding ticket for going 61 in the 45. The officer gave me a ticket for going 5 over and said I need to get used to city speed limits because they're a lot different. I've never gotten a ticket and cannot afford my insurance to go up. The ticket he gave me had a license plate number not even remotely similar to mine and said I was driving an escape but I drive a g6. Am wondering if he could have pulled over the wrong vehicle and how I should go about fighting this in court. Thank you

not the car.

Well, there are potential defenses that can be utilized when the citing officer gets the vehicle and license plate incorrect. The argument tends to involve the officer's apparent lack of attention to the facts and attempting to extrapolate that if he got such (arguably) glaringly obvious things wrong, then how can we trust his opinion of a speed estimation? Whether such a claim will gain traction or not depends on the court.
