What is the name of your state? North Carolina

I was terminated.

My employer has no employee handbook or job description to let me know what was expected. They didn't practice a shred of progressive discipline. They just fired me one day. No harrassment or theft was involved by either party. But they didn't even give me a chance to improve.

Does anyone think this is actionable?

WV - Lots of employers have 'at will' policies - no reason required for termination. How long were you employed? May be eligible for unemployment.

You have fallen for an 'old wife's tale' and it's getting old. An employer policy means absolutely noting under law. Every state is 'at-will' meaning that without a specific contract specifically stipulating the terms of termination, you can be fired for looking stupid if that is what the employer wants.

This poster has nothing. PERIOD. Even if the employer handbook said six months notice was required.

Dearest BB - depending on the length of employment and ability to establish 'fault on the part of the employer' (IN WV, anyway - no jokes, please) - unemployment may still be an option. Been there.

The poster asked about wrongful termination. This has nothing whatsoever to do with UC which I did not address. Why? Because the poster never asked the question.
