Wrongful termination/racial discrimination?

Hi ,I was working a warehouse pharmacy,the rooms are divided into office cubicle. I was in the room before this other coworker entered the room. We both had seated jobs and I was doing my job as she entered tells me "I need your seat it's the "good" seat."

She shows me that my seat can adjust up and down but I tell her"I'm good",since I'm taller and I had the chair 1st. She says she won't start her job until I give up her chair. I just ignore her and keep doing my job and she stands next to me for about 10mins I assume to intimidated me. Then line lead comes over and says "She needs that chair so she can be comfortable when she works!" I asked "what about me" and she said nothing. 5 mins pass and the supervisor comes into the room and says "If I don't give up the chair I have to leave."

So I left and he took my badge and I don't have a job no more.

I am a temp worker at the warehouse. I tried to contact HR but the main lady in charge is on vacation. Also the coworker,line lead and supervisor are all black and I'm not.

Nothing you stated suggested there were any racially motivated actions. You were insubordinate though which justified firing you.

Unless you have some proof the actions were racially motivated, ya got nothin'

Perhaps your coworker has a medical condition that requires that type of chair. Rather than disclose your coworker's private medical information, you were told by your supervisor to simply give the chair to her.

Defying a direct order from your supervisor was not the smartest thing you could have done.

You have posted nothing to suggest that this was either a wrongful termination or racial discrimination. On the other hand, you were insubordinate.

I am not saying that there is anything inherently okay with disparate treatment. But I think your defiance was not smart.

It would have been far better for you to give up the chair to your coworker and then address the matter privately with your supervisor. You might have learned something. All you have learned from your actions is that you are expendable.

As Chyvan advises, apply for unemployment and start looking for another job.

Unless it was your personally owned chair, the manager can allow anybody they wish to use the chair. It is not unlawful for the manager to take the chair from you and allow another person to use it unless there is some form of illegal discrimination involved.


The really dumb part of your actions; you said this;

The supervisor comes into the room and says if I don't give up the chair
I have to leave.



Obviously you took the second option (leave) but don't you realize that by doing that you also complied with the demand to give up the chair?

Since you were giving up the chair by leaving, why not just give up the chair and still have your job?
