After 10 years of an impecible work history, I was terminated without warning or even a suspension first. I was terminated for; Log violation and theft of company time [45 minutes]. I take great exception to this as other employees with either the same infraction or worse, have either received no reprimand or at the most, a three-day suspension. I believe that I was signaled out because there is a great deal of favortism at work and I am not one of the favorite 'brown nosers'. i am also 53 years of age and a long time union member.

Have you gone to the Union? What did they say?

Yes, I have gone to the union. There was a hearing, but it was a kangaroo court. They would not even listen to my attempt to site other employee infractions that either received no reprimand or at the most a three-day suspension. Unfortunately the union rep that I have is very ineffective. He does not want to make waves with management. He doesent even know the contract. I cannot prove this, but i strongly suspect that he gets a payoff from the company to look the other way. His boss is no better.

If I read the contract correctly I am still owed 93 vacation hours by the company. The union rep wasn't sure. I had to file a complaint with the Labor Board myself. He would not persue the issue anymore. I would go to the Labor Board and file a complaint against the union, but at this point I do not want to alienate him as I could be blacked balled from other union jobs in my industry. He did that to another employee.

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to my inquiry.
