I got fired by my owner of Domino's Pizza because I would not provide him a full list of names of employees who do not like him or enjoy working with him. He said that I was not protecting his company by not providing him the names. And when I refused he fired me. Is he allowed to do this?

Yes. He is allowed to do that.

It's poor management and it's evidence that he is a petty jerk of a guy that you don't want to work for. But it's not a wrongful termination, or in any way illegal.

You have to file for it. It will be based on the last two years of employment you have had for covered employers AND the reason you left this last job. Since the reason you left was a termination based upon your refusal to do what the employer asked (was this a reasonable request?) you're looking at a pretty good chance of being approved, IF you have sufficient wages in the quarters they'll look at to set up a claim.

And don't be surprised if the employer lies about why you were terminated. You just tell your story of exactly what was said, what happened, and let the chips fall. If you are denied benefits, you appeal. But in a work world like we have here and now, a job at Domino's should be easy to replace quickly. You'll be required to make a work search, and you will be making more money than the unemployment you could possibly draw with just about any other job you find. And another downside is that, if you file for benefits immediately, as you should do, it will take three or four weeks, maybe lots more, at the best for you to get a decision and begin receiving any money.

Unemployment benefits are for those who are out of work through no fault of their own. It is not for contractors, which many pizza place workers (such as delivery drivers) are considered. A lot of stupid employers who buy franchises do not understand that the employment of people does not make them little demi-gods who can hire and fire at will without repercussions. They CAN legally fire you for just about any reason including not liking the socks you wore to work today, but there are penalties to them in that if you are approved for unemployment benefits, it will cost them money in their employer taxes.

Most people do not understand, until it has happened to them, how totally the employer can do what they please when it comes to hiring and firing and "fairness" in the workplace.
