Dogs off leash

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MI

My neighbor has 2 small dogs and they never have them on a leash. They let them out the front door to use the bathroom and generally let them run free around the neighborhood. The problem I have is that the dogs mess constantly in my yard, pee on my house, and I do not get my mail at least once a week because the mail person will not deliver while they are out.

I talked to the post office and they do not report the dogs to the dog catcher, they only keep a log why they did not deliver. The dog catcher is lazy and does not come when the dogs are out, and the owner blames it on the kids but that is BS because they are not little anymore and they are old enough to know better.

So do I have any options to get them to keep them in their fenced yard? I am just sick of this, they are just lazy and do not want to clean up after them. These dogs crap on the side walks and drive way in addition to front yards which is disgusting. My house smells like urine when you walk in because the dog pees all over it.:(

Hire someone to clean the exterior of your home and the yard. Bill your neighbor. Video the dogs in your yard doing their "business" in case you need it for court.

so, have you even attempted to call the animal control folks, or the police, or whomever may ride shotgun over any local ordinances of your area?

You have to take some action for anything to be done about it.

Pretty much when ever I see the dogs in my yard but the guy takes a couple hours to come out and by that time they are in. He says he will pick the dog up of he sees them and that is it. My neighbor has been doing this for over 10 years and if the dog gets picked up and he gets a fine he just gets a new dog.

The biggest problem is that I never get my mail and have to go get it at the post office all the time.

what about the other folks; the police, the local government?

videotape everything.

I like blue meanies suggestion as well but be sure you have proof. You WILL need it to prevail.

Michigan (state) law:
287.262 Dogs; licensing, tags, leashes.

Sec. 2.

It shall be unlawful for any person to own any dog 6 months old or over, unless the dog is licensed as hereinafter provided, or to own any dog 6 months old or over that does not at all times wear a collar with a tag approved by the director of agriculture, attached as hereinafter provided, except when engaged in lawful hunting accompanied by its owner or custodian; or for any owner of any female dog to permit the female dog to go beyond the premises of such owner when she is in heat, unless the female dog is held properly in leash; or for any person except the owner or authorized agent, to remove any license tag from a dog; or for any owner to allow any dog, except working dogs such as leader dogs, guard dogs, farm dogs, hunting dogs, and other such dogs, when accompanied by their owner or his authorized agent, while actively engaged in activities for which such dogs are trained, to stray unless held properly in leash.

If you see them, get a hose and spray the dogs until they are off your property. Eventually they will learn not to come on your property.

You need a bottle of skunk juice :rolleyes:;):D:D

They'll go home and smell so bad (even after tomato juice baths), that the neighbor will start watching them a LOT closer.

How about a battery powered "RainBird" type sprinkler with a motion sensor. On a post. Shoots water when activated. Maybe $50-75.

Hint: keep sensor pointed away from mailbox.
