What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
But if it is the question that my wife always had about them back when she was a bridesmaid the answer is no, there is no law that requires them to be ugly.
Although I could be wrong, I suspect the legal question is not about ugly bridesmaid dresses.![]()
I "think" it's about suing for the cost of the dress after the wedding was called off.![]()
I apologize, my original message did not post correctly.
Yes, my post was in reference to being sued for the cost of a bridesmaid dress if I drop out of the wedding party.
The mother of the bride offered to pay for all dresses including bride, bridesmaids and flower girl. She referred to it as a “gift” from her to us.
I have since decided to not take part of the wedding. Can I be sued for the cost of the dress? The wedding is not scheduled until May 2018.
Thank you for returning to fill in the details.
If the dress cannot be returned because it has already been fitted, the mom potentially could sue to recover the cost of the dress. The bridesmaids' dresses could be seen as a gift conditioned on participation in the wedding.
Even if it has been fitted, unless the OP is of an extreme size one direction or another, the odds are greater that it can be resized to a new person that not.

That doesn't change the law, though.![]()
Nope...just wanted to let people know that the fact it had been sized would not necessarily preclude it being used by a new bridesmaid.
