What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York (NYC)

Hello. I am a US citizen. My teenaged daughter is Canadian. She now wants to live with me and go to high school in NYC. My lawyer has already submitted the paperwork for her to obtain US citizenship through me. I wanted to know if she is able to attend high school here before her citizenship goes through. Thanks in advanced.

You need to go talk to the high school. Its possible that they will allow her to enroll while the citizenship paperwork is pending. Many school districts will.

I'm asking these questions for a reason.

Were you and the other parent married at the time she was born?

Are you Mom or Dad?

If Dad, has legal paternity been established (assuming the answer to the first question is No)?

Where were you born?

Where was the other parent born?

Where was your daughter born and in what year?

Citizenship is rarely the problem. The NYC school system is full of non-citizens. The issue is demonstrating to the system's satisfaction that she is legitimately residing in their district.

I'm asking these questions for a reason. No problem. I know why you're asking.

Were you and the other parent married at the time she was born? No. Out of wedlock

Are you Mom or Dad? I'm asking for the father.

Where were you born? Canada

Where was the other parent born? Canada

Where was your daughter born and in what year?

* beats head against wall.

Okay, since you are a third party.

Where was DAD born. And if in Canada, how did he come by his US citizenship?

But in the first post this was OP's daughter. NOW OP is asking for dad. The lies and misleadings get ridiculous and ruin credibility.

Yeah, I noticed that.

But as a dual Canadian/American citizen, I thought I might be able to provide some information. Of course, if I'm given misleading information, the answers he gets back may be incorrect as well.

She's my stepdaughter. If you don't want to answer it, that's fine. I'm asking for my husband and I wrote the OP like that for simplicity. I didn't want to get into my husband's daughter blah blah blah.

All the info provided in the OP is the same. US/CAN dual citizen father, legitimized minor Canadian teenager. Need to know if it's possible to enroll her in school in NYC. Facts are the same.

I replied above. Born in Canada. He had one US citizen parent, which is how he was naturalized. He's US/CAN dual citizen.

Well, you got the answer to that question with Ron's response. I'm trying to figure out why she doesn't have US citizenship through her father to begin with. But if you don't care, I don't.
