Hello. I am a US citizen. My teenaged daughter is Canadian. She now wants to live with me and go to high school in NYC. My lawyer has already submitted the paperwork for her to obtain US citizenship through me. I wanted to know if she is able to attend high school here before her citizenship goes through. You need to go talk to the high school. Its possible that they will allow her to enroll while the citizenship paperwork is pending. Many school districts will.

She's my stepdaughter. If you don't want to answer it, that's fine. I'm asking for my husband and I wrote the OP like that for simplicity. I didn't want to get into my husband's daughter blah blah blah.

All the info provided in the OP is the same. US/CAN dual citizen father, legitimized minor Canadian teenager. Need to know if it's possible to enroll her in school in NYC. Facts are the same.

I replied above. Born in Canada. He had one US citizen parent, which is how he was naturalized. He's US/CAN dual citizen.

Well, you got the answer to that question with Ron's response. I'm trying to figure out why she doesn't have US citizenship through her father to begin with. But if you don't care, I don't.
