What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Colorado. Today I filed contempt of court on my ex for unilaterally putting my kids on his health insurance plan without my OK. Our divorce decree states that I have the final decision-making authority, and he denied me that. Now, I am facing the possibility of supporting two kids who live under my roof and only spend 96 nights per year with their father, not only without support from him, but there is a chance I might have to pay HIM child support. This is the reason I filed contempt.

Anyway, I am pro-se, so provided that the Court grants my motion, I need to know what kind of questions I should be asking him in court. Any suggestions would be of great help!!

Having the kids on his health insurance does NOT mean you will have to pay him anything. Why isn't he paying child support?

...and frankly if you don't know what to ask when you go to court...you really shouldn't be going pro se.

See signspinner's many posts. A great example of how not to do things!

Health Insurance

Why on EARTH would you complain about dad putting the kids on his health insurance?

This is a double edged sword. I am complaining because #1 he is underemployed, #2 he has not been paying child support, #3 because the Child Support Enforcement Unit told him that since I'm making more than him, putting the kids on HIS medical plan would make it so I have to pay HIM. This is all he wants. I divorced him because of psychological and financial abuse. He is continuing the abuse now.

...I think you might have a rather unpleasant shock coming to you :(

I don't have a choice but to go pro se. I have been dealing with this man and his narcissistic drama for over 6 years. All the attorneys fees have broke me. I am being garnished for debt he left me with, and trying to support my household. I want his child support, not pay HIM for medical insurance on the kids. Neither of us can afford it, but he's going to do the best he can to get ME to pay HIM AND support the kids all on my own. Got me now?

No. Normally, medical insurance is separate from child support. If you want further help, you really need to be more clear about the actual details. Like what your order says. We can't help you with just ranting. Sorry.

He's supposed to be paying child support. He's a deadbeat. Up until February when the child support enforcement unit called him and told him they were prepping to prepare contempt of court papers he was refusing to work. He's already been in work-release once, doesn't want to go back, so he got the lowest paying job he could find.

In the state of Colorado it is part of child support. It's not all of it, but this is what I have been told by a former attorney.

Since I have to represent myself in court, I simply need to know what kind of questions to ask. I really didn't expect to have to explain the matter other than what it is:

Fact: the divorce decree said that we are to confer, and that if we can't agree, I get final decision-making authority.

Fact: ex has been either underemployed or unemployed since the divorce began.

Fact: because Child Support Enforcement called him and told him they were going to file contempt of court charges on him for not working he got a job working part time so that he could motion the court to pay less than had been stipulated and ordered 3 years ago.

Fact: ex made a unilateral decision to put the kids on his health insurance plan after we conferred and I said "NO" that we needed to find something else.

Fact: I filed contempt of court based on the fact that he refused to take "NO" as an answer.
