I took my mom out for a steak dinner this afternoon with my CS money. Of course, I had already written checks this month for band fees ($140) and band uniforms ($120) AND sent The Teen to Hotlanta with the HS band with $120 in her pocket for meals (and junk - Six Flags is expensive). Those checks/funds came out of my personal bank account where I deposit only my paychecks.

Thanks for the responses.

Since everyone seems to be "curious" in here. I am curious to find out how many of the respondents are resentful-towards the father, mothers.

Just curious, do you all think that if these forums were answer by all males, would the answers be any different? Just a thought.

Probably not. Of course, you HAVE gotten responses by both genders, and they seem to be pretty equal. Funny - none of them agree with you.

In a nutshell, been absent for around 3 years, so obviously I would not know which is my son's favorite food (right, that is my fault and I take 100% blame for it). This month will be my first payment with arrears.-

So... have you been paying ANY support for the past three years?

I'd be glad to give him a breakdown on what I spend on The Teen every month, and then we'll see if he still thinks he needs an accounting on how "his" CS is spent; because Above only knows how much monies are spent on her behalf. :p

Yeah, but.... None of that is a "necessary" expense. If OP had his way, she'd have nothing but the rags on her back, and breadcrusts and water for dinner!

....I'm the youngest of twenty-four kids. By the time it was my turn, I was licking the grease off of somebody's toenail.Sniffle.

Not even remotely appetizing. And to the italicized?:eek::eek:

Here's a breakdown for you OP.

I have two separate accounts. One that MY check goes into and one that CS goes into. I do this since I have direct deposit in a non-local bank.

My check covers: daycare, sports, food, clothing, rent, utilities fun stuff...

CS account? Yeah... um. Ok. My $120 a week? Um... gym membership, zoo entry fees, dog food and movie rentals, and pedicures FOR ME.

Not that any of this is YOUR business, but just pointing out that what I actually spend CS on, is neither here nor there when I cover ALL of the other stuff ON MY OWN. Get off your high horse and just PAY YOUR SHARE.

I guess it's time for the swimming pool story again (since no one ever bothers to search before asking questions).

Think of ex's household finances as a swimming pool. Every month, you add 200 gallons of water to the pool to cover your child support. Then, your ex adds 400 gallons of water from her income. Maybe she has a few more gallons coming from somewhere else.

Now, she needs 100 gallons to cover food, 100 gallons to clothe the kids, 100 gallons for shelter for the kids and 100 gallons for medical for the kids. So 400 gallons a month is going toward the kids. How in the world do you identify which 'gallons' are from your child support payment?

More importantly, let's say that the kids's expenses all come due at the first of the month. She has medical bills, has to buy them food, they've outgrown their clothes, etc. So she spends the 400 gallons on the kids on the first of the month. Now, your child support check arrives on the 10th of the month (or whenever it's due). Why in the world would it be wrong for her to spend the money in the pool for a Gucci purse or a manicure or a trip to Vega if she wants to? She paid all the kids' expenses and your 'gallons' are simply refilling the pool from 'money' that was already spent.

Legal Answer

How do you change child support?
Either party can request a change to the child support amount. Obviously a parent will want to change child support when the parent’s income increases or decreases, or when a child is emancipated (turned 18 years of age and is out of high school). If a parent paying or receiving child support later has another child this too can warrant a change in the child support amount. Other changes that can warrant a modification to child support are a change in visitation time, day care costs and insurance costs. Normally the court will not change child support if the new amount is less then 15% of what the current child support amount is. To change child support a parent needs to file a request to make the change with the court.

Child Support

The only way this affects you within 15% is if you currently make less than $3.32 per hour.
