I'd hate to see what activity a fiend would choose for their child. :devilish:

So my spell check is not smart enough to read my mind. FRIEND chose piano lessons. Mom chooses things like karate (during the pandemic no less!) - but she also lets him ride skate board on a public street with little protective gear.

Your bias is showing.

There's nothing wrong with karate lessons.

What do you mean by the bolded. Could you be more specific?
The controlled costs are those that a parent with primary custody will have to bear. This includes any school related costs. My ex has primary, and we have joint legal. Though we have joint legal, some of the activities and expenses were not divulged to me prior to signing up the children.

In normal times maybe. But this is close contact in a gym. A parent who will not let the child attend school, have tennis lesson outside or go to the dentist due to the virus but will allow the child in karate is illogical.

In "normal" times there is little to no contact in martial arts for white/yellow/green/orange belts, so it would be no big deal to have lessons in these trying times.

It is good to know some providers are serious about safety.

Adults have problems going to gyms in my area. The kids I know best (in another location) go to school with both masks and face shields. Their physical activities are outdoor - like sailing lessons and camping in their own yard. I'd worry about energetic physical activity in a confined area especially with a diverse group from a wide area.

The parent advocating karate refused to allow tennis (singles with kids NOT sharing equipment) or being outside on more than a 1/4 acre yard with a friend or attend in person school.

I agree that it would be unwise for children to participate in karate during the pandemic. Contact or no, they do get pretty close to each other at a time that they're breathing heavily, grunting, yelling, etc. It pretty much goes against all social-distancing guidelines.

Big fat hairy deal. I'm on Long Island, so all this is old hat.

The issue I have is that you are a legal stranger to the child in question. Commenting about the parental arrangements on how to split costs equitably is one thing. Commenting about Mom's parenting style - just stop it. Believe me, you are not helping: you are not helping OP, and it is likely that your attitude is not helping your friend. Your "friend's" kid knows your attitude too - have NO doubt of that, and that it's hurtful to the child.

BWAHAHAAHA!!! I'm curious how many different martial arts you have practiced/observed that led you to that conclusion. Also, not every martial art follows the same belt order.

A lot will depend on the style being studied. It is also possible that the particular dojo is focussing more on kata during the pandemic than on sparring/grappling. Also depends on what other precautions the dojo is taking. None of that info was included, so it's really impossible to gauge the wisdom of the activity.

I replied to my ex asking for full and complete receipts to which she responds 'what is so confusing? I have sent the receipts previously'.
Of the 15 things she listed, she had sent only 3. Of the 3, I spoke with the providers of the activities and they confirmed the amounts which are less than what she quoted :(
