I'm still stuck on what 14 year old doesn't know enough to clean up poo. My 8 year old has a dog, and he knows to at the very least alert someone to the fact that the puppy has pooped. Then he finds a baggie and helps clean it up. 14 can't do that?

Funny story:

My son Twain is 5. He has a puppy, and the deal was that he would have to pick up any messes during the housebreaking phase.

So, my 14 year old was walking through the dining room and caught Brian (the pup) poo-ing. She put him on his puppy pad to finish and picked the poo up off the rug.

My 5 year old 'caught' her doing so, and made her put the poo back down so HE could clean it up because it was his "sponsisillity".

Well then how would OP be able to stick it to Mom then, call CYS, publish the pictures on facebook, take Mom to court to get custody of both kids, and make Mom pay umpteen hundred dollars a month child support if 14 year old cleans it up?

My 5 yr old was at the house with my 14 yr old. I should have made it more clear when I said I discussed my ex leaving the kids there alone for hrs on end. We had that talk when the kids were 12 and 3. I agree my 14 yr old is capable of watching the 5 yr old, but she really isn't very responsible. When she is with me I try to teach her some responsibility, but if her mom doesn't try to teach her some responsibilty there isn't much I can do about it. Not that she isn't trying to teach her some.
I agree that my 14 yr old could and should have cleaned up the dog pop, and straightened up the house. I can not and do not try to control what they do at their moms house. I didn't go in to look around, or to make accusations, I went to the aid of my child who was hurt.
I did not call children services or publish the pictures or anything of the sort as I don't know if the house is like that all the time or not. One thing I didn't really think about though was, my name is still on the deed and the mortgage on the house, but it isn't my residence.
I tried to call the mother before I ever got there, and no answer.
As for inspecting the house, its kind of hard not to notice these things t
When you have to step over them. The bathroom in question is right beside my oldest daughters room and when I turned to leave her room it was right there. I could see it from standing in her doorway.
I get that legally I shouldn't have entered, but I thought my daughter has broken her ankle. That is the only reason I went in.
I am not trying to stick it to mom. I just want my kids in a clean and healthy environment. If I was trying to stick mom, I would have called children services without ever trying to contact her.

And, as you were told, you might have found yourself on the receiving end of criminal charges.

You have no reason to go into the house without Mom's permission - other than an imminent, life threatening emergency. Even if you did have some magic powers to diagnose an injured ankle from a picture and even if it WAS broken, that's not a life-threatening emergency.
