I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA. THE APARTMENT I WAS RENTING ON A MONTH TO MONTH BASIS, THE ORIGIONAL OWNER AND I HAD NO WRITTEN CONTRACTS, BUT WE DID HAVE A VERBAL CONTRACT, AND I DO HAVE RENT RECIEPTS. WHILE I WAS GONE FOR 4 DAYS, THE NEW OWNER TOOK OVER, ( I HAVE PREVIOUSLY MET THE NEW OWNER, AND THEY KNEW THAT I LIVED THEIR, AND I WAS UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT MY CURRENT RENTAL SITUATION WOULD CONTINUE EVEN AFTER THE EXCHANGE OF OWNERS), DUE TO A PREVIOUSE INCIDENT WHERE MY APARTMENT HAD BEEN BROKEN INTO, I LEFT A FRIEND TO WATCH OVER MY APARTMENT. WHILE I WAS GONE, THE NEW OWNER APPARENTLY CAME TO THE APARTMENT WITH BATS, AND FORCED MY FRIEND OUT OF THE APARTMENT, THREW ALL MY BELONGINGS OUT, AND CHANGED THE LOCKS. UPON ARRIVNG HOME, I LEARNED THAT NOT ONLY DID ALL THIS HAPPEN IN THE 4 DAYS I WAS AWAY, BUT MY APARTMENT HAD ALREADY BEEN RENTED OUT, AND ALL OF MY PERSONAL ITEMS AND BELONGINGS HAD BEEN THROWN AWAY. I WANT TO KNOW HOW AND WHAT I AM SUPPOSE TO DO? THE OLD OWNER AND MANY OF MY NEIGHBORS WITNESSED IT, AND ARE ON MY SIDE. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE E-MAILME BACK WITH THE NAME OF THE COURT PAPERS TO FILE OR SOMETHING?

For the benefit of others (and for idiots like 'Chowder', who obviously hasn't gotten to the 'reading' stage of his education), the main rules of the forum are found at the top of the screen. In this case, the applicable rule is:
Please Include your state, be civil, brief, and to the point, and use lower case letters.

**A: damn it cider, can't you read? Look at the top of the page.

Thanks; just overlooked it. Since you two frequently ignore the "civil" part, it doesn't seem that following the rule is very important to you anyway. ;)

Ciao,

Nah, it just doesn't apply to us. We who make the rules are exempt. Kind of like the US Congress!! :D

Since everyone is just here posting to be posting because OP posted in all CAPs Is it ok to give the answer anyway?

They have to give you 60 days notice per Ca. Civil code:
1946.1. (a) Notwithstanding Section 1946, a hiring of residential
real property for a term not specified by the parties, is deemed to
be renewed as stated in Section 1945, at the end of the term implied
by law unless one of the parties gives written notice to the other of
his or her intention to terminate the tenancy, as provided in this
section.
(b) An owner of a residential dwelling giving notice pursuant to
this section shall give notice at least 60 days prior to the proposed
date of termination. A tenant giving notice pursuant to this
section shall give notice for a period at least as long as the term
of the periodic tenancy prior to the proposed date of termination.

**A: no, it's not ok. Why are you rewarding an idiot for not following the posting instructions? Are you the enabler?

It is not civil to do such things as call people names ("stupid", "idiot", etc.) or make demeaning insinuations about a poster's state (implying they're hicks, etc.).

That's more honest.

The way I read it, the rules apply to people asking questions, not to the replies, so we're free to call YOU A BLITHERING IDIOT in all caps and still be in compliance with the rule :D
