The current wording of the renunciation part of the oath of allegiance is too broad for me specifically since the only country I need to renounce is Nigeria, not a "prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty". Can I ask that 'renounce and abjure absolutely and entirely all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which the applicant was before a subject or citizen ' be changed to 'renounce and abjure absolutely and entirely all allegiance and fidelity to Nigeria?'I believe this is a minor request that will still fulfill the 2nd principle of the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1953. I do not have any problem with any other part of the oath of allegiance.

Nope. If you are not willing to swear to the oath as it is written, in its entirety, then you do not really want to be a citizen of the US.

Let's use logic here:

You are being asked to renounce, in essence, all of those things. You feel there is only one thing you need to renounce. If you renounce them all, then you've renounced the one. Since there are no others to renounce, then the other statements really don't mean anything, so there's no reason not to say them.
