"Calm down. Until your last post, you made perfectly good sense and presented your concerns in a very intelligent manner; now emotions are detracting from your concerns--example--The urine test required is not a simple 'pee in the cup'; it is a 24-hour collection of urine. How easy would it be to get a 24 hour urine collection from a toddler? Pretty darn impossible without a catheter!"

24 hour may be 'ideal', but these enzymes would have been present if the child had urinated during one of these many, many office visits.

My children started urinating in a cup at their 24 month old well-checks. While slightly challenging at first certainly not impossible, especially for potty trained toddlers.

THERE IS ONLY ONE TYPE OF NEUROBLASTOMA. Apparently I wasn't clear on my last post. What do you mean by TYPE? It's pediatric neuroblastoma, diagnosed in stages. PERIOD.

Again, I appreciate the insight and the helpful posts but resent having to answer for 'the mother's actions' or what specifically you need in addition to what I have provided.

Since this thread seems to be going downhill I will exit the forum at this point.

Good luck to all.

"You are telling me that a doc sees a pt roughly 3 x a week and NO bloodwork/urine was performed"

YES, that is exactly what I am telling you. It is hard to believe but true nonetheless. I believe this is why the current doctors who are now treating her son keep reminding her of the 'lack of standard care' issue.

Her doctor was a family physician. There was ONE referral to an ENT who inserted tubes in his ears three months prior to the dx of neuroblastoma. I really have to question if he really had ear issues at all but in giving the benefit of the doubt I hope this wasn't done just to 'appease' the mother.

She tried to get her medical records to no avail. The family physican has not ONE TIME called to check on this little boy and she treated the entire family for six years. I find that very odd at best.
The bottom line is that the attorney will get the records, review all the facts and make a determination and advise of whether there is a case here.
Why can she not get her records???
I don't find it odd that she has not called to check on the boy, I have pt's dx everyday with terminal dz and cannot possibly call them all to check on them. It is not a flipant attitude, it is the sad truth of how busy we ALL are.

I again reiterate the rhetorical statement:
If mom continued to take son to doc, she MUST have been satisfied with care she perceived he was getting. Otherwise, why not go to a Pediatrician for a second opinion? Or ask ENT to check out problem? Many other scenarios. I feel that until you have the chart, which you claim you do not and neither does mom, that time has clouded memory and that some testing was performed. Maybe not the testing that would have found the blastoma, but some none the less. Out of exasperation I would perform tests on a healthy person to ease their mind if they continued to see me 3 X a week for 6 months!!!

The only recourse I see is to get the atty involved and see if there is anything in here for a case.

The family physician will not be held to the standards of an oncologist. The family physician will be held to the same standards as an equally qualified physician in an equal practice setting.

The oncologist LIED if they told you or the mother that it was curable for each and every child and not just the 20% that medical journals, research reports, etc. state.

There was no need to insult those of who have tried to help you. You have much to learn about medical malpractice lawsuits. When you do learn, how about coming back here and apologizing?!

Until I see an apology, my license and I are out of here.

Is this your child also?

Why are you accompanying patent and mother on doctor visits?

You claim mom has been unsuccessful obtaining medical records, have these been requested according to HIPPA? Has she complained to insurance when medical records appropriatedly requested under HIPPA were not provided?

NOW you tell us child was referred to ENT 3 months into this which would be more than appropriate if all the child had were flulike symptoms. WHY are you not accusing the ENT of misdiagnosis?

Doctor is seeing child every few days and now under another doctors care with threats of a lawsuit, and you expect the doctor to call to check on the child, is the entire family still seeing this doctor?

Did mom have ultrasound during pregnancy?

You keep insisting that:"THERE IS ONLY ONE TYPE OF NEUROBLASTOMA. Apparently I wasn't clear on my last post. What do you mean by TYPE? It's pediatric neuroblastoma, diagnosed in stages. PERIOD." This is false there are two types. Some people who develop cancer have DNA mutations they inherited from a parent, which increases their risk for the disease. That is why the families medical history will come into play. The few familial cases of neuroblastoma are due to inherited tumor suppressor gene mutations. These are fewer in number but might be diagnosed earlier because the doctors are looking for them. It is important to remember these cells are normal at a point in neurodevelopment and their failure to mature or become cancer cells instead plays a big role why it is difficult to diagnose until stage 4 and why the urine tests are not used to screen.

Most neuroblastomas are not caused by inherited DNA mutations. They are the result of mutations acquired early in the child's lifetime, When? The reasons for DNA changes that cause neuroblastomas are not known. But there are two types, not one.

What is causing your attitude when everyone here is trying to help you?

I am not a physician and I don't believe anyone posting in this thread has a license. I am going by what I was told by two pediatric oncologists have told me on more than one occasion. I need not defend that position or spend hours visiting statistical info on this cancer. I believe what was told to me and I think these two oncologists would not provide erroneous information to the mother of a dying child.

I know of two cases where parents successfully sued medical providers when their child was dx with this rare form of cancer at a late date. So, while this is not cut and dry I do believe that when lack of basic care results in injury or death, legal avenues can be explored and sometimes won, even with neuroblastoma.

Thank you for your time.
Ummm... incorrect. All three of us have licenses of varying degrees. We are not making up our responses, we have experience that guides our replies.

No one said you did not have a case. As both rmet and ellen have pointed out, you need to prepare the mother for the upcoming challenge of defending her actions in a court if she chooses to go that route.

Unfortunately, you are 'exiting this forum' feeling like this thread has taken a downhill turn, you are seriously mistaken. All three of us have taken time and care to help you understand the situation, and to offer our advice. There are many times that the wording we use is much harsher than you have experienced. "kit gloves" have been used by us when responding to you, and that is unusual as you are no relation to the mother or the boy, just a friend by your own admission.

Calm down, answer our questions, and we will try to help. Get angry and leave, and lose valuable responses from experienced and knowledgable people... your choice.

CHALLA please take my advice and look for another forum to ask questions in. These people obviously don't like playing well with others and like to add their ignorance instead of advice. Please look over some of the other threads and by doing this you can pretty much paint a picture of each of these people. Notice the locked threads. Yup you can believe you will find their name somewhere in that post. Advice is usually given in the first 2 posts anything beyond that is then turned into a bickering match. Please take what you have read and go on and for god sake do not apologize.

Who either gave her incorrect information, or wrote anything rude? The people who have responded have been trying to help her.

When a poster receives correct advice they don't like just as you did, it is not uncommon for them to lock their thread, just as you did, the only reflection is on the ignorance of the OP not the advice they received. We would not be here giving advice if it were wrong. OP needs to understand the consequences.

Since you already have formed an opinion of me, (and believe me I have an opinion of you!), let me reinforce it for you...

You are a complete MORON!
You do not have a clue about what you are saying. Go back to your trailer and don't step on a dog on your way up the steps.

Read this thread and show me how any of us added ignorance instead of advice?

You reinforce my stereo-type belief of people who live in trailers:
Morons with nothing better to do than to bother us decent hardworking people on this forum.
I bet you didn't like the response you got to your original question, so you came in here to tell challa to leave.

I suggest you take your own advice;
Seek another forum, we don't want your banal stupidity to rub off on us!!!

Of COURSE YOU don't have time to call and check on anyone. You are FAR TOO busy abusing everyone on a "free advice" website. That in and of itself is pathetic AT BEST. Secondly, it's no surprise that SO MANY OF YOUR PATIENTS ARE DIAGNOSED AS TERMINAL! Good G-d, can't imagine the missed diagnosis THERE. I seriously question the validity of your credentials. I'm guessing Sally Struther's University, perhaps? Did you TRAIN AT HOME for that degree? Only morons such as yourself would take SUCH pleasure in taking advantage of others who unknowingly stumble into this nightmare of a website for a little guidance. WHAT A LOSER YOU ARE. TRULY. YOUR MOTHER MUST BE SO PROUD.

GOTTA RUN. Wouldn't want to hold you up. I know HOW BUSY YOU ARE beating up everyone with your EVER SO HELPFUL ADVICE. Such the busy professional, barking garbage and slinging insults from your little corner of the world.

YOU SUCK and so do your accomplices. Reading back through this thread I could kick myself in the ass for responding after post #1.

For all of the newbies here, RUN (don't walk) from this Jerry Springer side show. There are PLENTY OF GOOD websites offering DECENT SOUND LEGAL ADVICE, MINUS THE IDIOTS AND INSULTS.
