Actually the autopsy report concluded that the death was a result of excited delirium. It happens all too often when Police result to excessive force on subjects who are in a delirious state of mind. I don't think that whether or not this is chemically induced delirium is something worth debating. FACT: He was tazed up to 19 times, when the manufacture of these tazers warn against this type of excessive use. What I see are overweight, under trained officers using these devices zealously when maybe they should cut out the donuts, amp up the PT and pay attention in their training classes.

Or maybe the meth heads should just stop running and fighting the police when they are told to stop. Do you have any idea how little affect these things have on some one who is so high on meth or other drugs that they can't even feel it when they are tazed.

What do you suppose they should have done? Maybe they should have just let him go until he was off the drugs and picked him up later after he hurt or killed some one. Also he died two days later from delirium tremors which if you know any thing about them could have happened if he was sitting at home on his couch and has nothing to do with him getting tazed. Unfortunately the family and Metro will probably settle out of court and this drug heads family will get a lot of money.

you run or fight the police you get what you deserve. NO I AM NOT A POLICE OFFICER just a law abiding citizen.

Nor am I an officer. But I do realize that these valiant individuals put themselves in danger every day. I realize that police work is not a safe occupation. So should they.

Common sense would dictate that if you taze someone and they do not stop resisting that it's possible you may just have to chase them down until they stop. It does not mean because these officers were under trained and overweight that they had to taze him 19 times in hopes he'd stop resisting. The training courses specifically dictate that overuse of a tazer can result in permanent injury or death.

So this young man, who just turned 21 years old, deserved to die because he was in a delirious state of mind? He most likely had no idea what was happening, and happened to be the victim of excessive force. HE WAS NAKED AND RUNNING AROUND LIKE A LUNATIC. He was obviously not a threat in the sense that he could of been harboring a weapon.

Also, meth has nothing to do with this, the toxicology reports confirmed that.

We do. And while I have no way to know whether 19 times was appropriate, the alternative might have been busting bones with a baton to attempt to gain compliance. Apparently he was not responding to ANYTHING! And I have fought for my life with people like that. The next option after a time is shooting them.

And if they keep fighting, then what? beat him with a baton? Shoot him?

There are some people that won't comply. I am NOT required to risk death to subdue an individual nor does the law say I have to fight with equal force. The law states we may use that force which is necessary, not equal or "fair" force.

I don't recall that statement in my training.

While that incident may have been excessive, the Taser remains a great tool and has reduced injuries to suspects and officers nation wide.
