My 8 yo daughter who is in 3rd grade, is a very good student, high grades. She has never had a problem with any teachers, until this year. She has two teachers, who combine their classes (for a total of 40-45 students). Her teacher is married to the other one, and is a nice man. His wife on the other hand is very strict, never has encouraging words for my child, and continually harps on her. She does daydream, we've been working on this and has improved. All year I've heard nothing but "she's doing well, but..." And when we had the parent/ teacher conference, they said she was getting high grades and G.A.T.E. wanted her to test for their academic programs for gifted children (a program for children with excellerated learning skills). Upon hearing about this from her teachers, they also kept repeating that they don't understand why she would be accepted into their program (because she daydreams, and gets frustrated when harped on). Then they turned to "maybe she's A.D.D." and we could have her tested
The problem is this:
One day, my daughter misplaced her lunch money, the teacher helped her look for 5 minutes, then argued with my daughter about leaving the classroom. The teacher told me she had to PHYSICALLY drag my daughter out of the classroom.
(I tried several times to get through to the teacher that my daughter gets yelled at for everything - by her father and step-mother. They called me mad one night asking where my daughter's earrings were. And complained about not having socks (they get 250.00 from me a month -and they dont have socks???? which IS beside the point, but shows how trivial they are)
What I need to know is what right does this teacher have putting her hands on MY child? and where are these laws found? What can I do to prevent it?
Can CP be held responsible for not taking action & interest in her schooling??
I did let her know that I do not want anyone putting their hands on MY daughter. But I feel I need to back up my words with laws.
I am a little over zealous when it comes to my child, but am I wrong??? If I don't stand up and protect her (and her interests) who will? Not her father, he's only interested in the money her receives from me each month!!!)
Thank all who give any encouraging responses (and the like)
