No smokes, no alchohol, nothing that is not necessary to preserve the life of the mother (such as insulin for a diabetic), and that is not being monitored by the OB. Meds "prescribed" that may be ok if NOT pregnant must often be discontinued when pregnant.

I DOUBT her ob/gyn gave her the okey-dokey to continue methedone. It IS prenatal child abuse. It can Permanently damage the baby when they are exposed in utero.

I am sure that they were as well....or if not, they suffered from a mom who developed the addiction later. Its awful, its horrible....my ex's cousin is a heroine addict so I know it first hand. As a result I really do applaud the parents for getting treatment for the addiction. They have also lasted longer in recovery than statistics generally indicate....which is positive.

However....I agree that the baby should not have been subjected to methadone....yet, at the same time I don't think it automatically means that they should not be able to raise their child. They are in recovery and apparently doing well at this point. They deserve a chance....a monitored and controlled chance...but a chance.

THANK YOU LDIJ. And no the baby does not have a missing limb - how ignorant and infantile can you people be?? Read about it... there are no long term effects on a baby who is born to a mother is prescribed methadone under treatment and a doctor's supervision.
