If child support is dismissed and he never has to pay again, he is still responsible for arrearages. Nextwife is correct. He cant just stop his support obligations. If step dad adopts the child, the bio parents parental right can be relinquished so that the adoption can occur. But arrearages...- msfurman

Yes, a significant change, not just becasue she wants to. So, what do you think she woudl say about you or your lifestyle or how you care for her? Secondl, she doesnt need an attny to get into court. But your cousins situation is differnet becasue you said they gave them up. I was talking about a situation where there is a custody fight and one is not the biological parent. Whoa. Im not sure what you do in that situation with a legal adult whom you still have to pay support for becuase she is still in High School. Oh, I completly understand. My complaint is not for personal reasons or for her friend. She has plenty of time with me and in her life here to visit with friends and do the girlly things. The child still has the right to know who his real father is. Wether mom tells the child now or later. It still needs to be known. If you want to see your child, then yes pursue it. If you dont want to, then dont. But keep in mind, in Va, an adoption....after 6 months, no one can come in and contest it. Its final after 6 months. Yes, that's not legal notice. Yoru Court orders should say how to give proper legal notice. If for some reason, you are not able to reach mom, you should have at least written the court and gave them legal notice. Yes he can keep the child from moving. What you need to do is give the court and the father legal notice of the move. Every state is different as to the amount of time given befoer the move. Va is 30 days prior written notice to the court and other party of the move, address, phonenumber etc...- msfurman

I did not neglec to say that we live in seperate states: Now, she is in need of medical attention and since I live out of state, I need to set up new providers for her. Ambr OP also mentions that are in two different states. So dads time is pretty much limited to his weekend visitations...- msfurman

Talk to an attny but I have been told that biological parents take presidence over non-biological. My situation is different than yours and my child is 4. Im married, and I have proof that I sent him notification of the move. So I am not worried really about moving. He was given 30 day written notice which I found my copy of and on the 30th day, he signed a letter stating that he knew she was being registered. So this is covered. Thanks.- msfurman
